Thomas Thurmeier

 

Thomas is a corporate commercial and real estate lawyer practising in Calgary, Alberta, as a partner with the Small Business Legal Centre (SBLC). Prior to co-founding SBLC, Thomas was in private practice and in-house counsel for the City of Calgary acting in litigation, land and development, real estate, and commercial leasing.

After practicing law in Alberta since 1998, Thomas has a varied experience including:

  • Purchase & sale of businesses
  • Employment agreements, independent contractors, & customer agreements
  • Corporate & commercial matters including unanimous shareholder’s agreements, options, & buyouts
  • Corporate & other structures including for the purpose of investing in real estate
  • Residential & commercial real estate purchases, sales, & refinances
  • Acting for private lenders & real estate investors

Thomas’ practice over the last several years has focused primarily on small business start ups, purchases/sales, share buy-ins, and operational matters. Thomas also regularly deals with real estate, corporate and commercial matters including the typical concerns of real estate investors in starting, building, and protecting their portfolio of assets. In particular Thomas has acted for numerous individuals and entities who wish to invest in real estate in one form or another with an emphasis on the structure of the portfolio and any specific transaction.


Sarah Anning

 

Sarah joined Small Business Legal Centre as the firm’s first articled student in 2015. Prior to working at SBLC, Sarah studied biology and law at the University of Victoria. Sarah practices in the areas of corporate and commercial law. She has experience in a wide range of legal matters and will be pleased to assist clients with:

  • Drafting service agreements, employee and contractor agreements, waivers, non-disclosure agreements, unanimous shareholder agreements, website terms of use and privacy policies, and a variety of other contracts;
  • Review of contracts clients are seeking legal advice on, including commercial lease agreements, franchise agreements, confidentiality agreements, master service agreements and more; and
  • Setting up corporations, building corporate minute books, and consulting on business structure and other start-up concerns.

Sarah enjoys learning about her clients’ business ventures and takes pride in providing quality, timely legal services to help keep their businesses protected.
